Did a Real Wedding Toast Inspire SNL’s Viral Domingo Sketch?

What do a Broadway hit, a summer anthem, and a viral “Saturday Night Live” sketch have in common? The answer might just be a wedding toast that went way beyond “cheers.”

Last August, Sarah Jornsay-Silverberg, 40, decided to give her sister Julia a wedding speech to remember. Instead of the usual heartfelt words, she delivered a full-blown parody of “Satisfied” from Hamilton, rewriting the lyrics to celebrate Julia and her new husband. The performance was so good, it went viral—and it might have even inspired one of SNL’s most talked-about sketches.

In a behind-the-scenes clip, SNL writers Jimmy Fowlie and Ceara O’Sullivan shared that a video of a bridesmaid rapping at a wedding sparked the idea for their now-iconic Domingo sketch. In the sketch, Ariana Grande plays a maid of honor who reveals the bride’s scandalous fling with a man named Domingo (played by Marcello Hernández) during her bachelorette trip.

“If you’re that girl and you’re seeing this, I can’t even tell you how much joy the video’s brought me,” Fowlie said. “I’m so glad you did it, because it inspired this.”

Julia Jornsay-Silverberg, 35, later took to TikTok to wonder if her sister’s toast was the one Fowlie was talking about. The sisters’ moment of fame has since become a delightful crossover of real-life humor and TV comedy.

So, the next time you’re at a wedding, don’t be surprised if someone breaks into a Hamilton rap. After all, you never know—it might just end up on SNL.
