Passengers aboard a United Airlines flight from Houston to New York experienced a tense moment on Tuesday when the plane was evacuated due to an engine issue just before takeoff. Officials confirmed the problem, which prompted the emergency response at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the plane’s wing. One passenger captured the scene on video, where a flight attendant could be heard urging everyone to remain seated. “No, it’s on fire!” a traveler shouted in response. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The Houston Fire Department assisted with the evacuation, ensuring all 104 passengers and five crew members safely exited the aircraft using emergency slides and stairs. United Airlines later rebooked the travelers on an afternoon flight to LaGuardia Airport in New York.
