Trump and Meta Reach Settlement Agreement, Ending Lawsuit

Former President Donald Trump has officially settled his legal battle with Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. The agreement, signed at the White House on Wednesday, brings an end to the lawsuit Trump filed after his accounts were suspended following the January 6 Capitol attack.

According to sources close to the matter, the settlement includes a payment of around $25 million from Meta. Most of that amount, about $22 million, will go toward funding Trump’s upcoming presidential library. The rest will cover legal fees and other plaintiffs involved in the case.

The resolution marks a turning point in the relationship between Trump and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Since Trump’s 2024 election win, Zuckerberg has made efforts to mend ties, including a $1 million donation to the inauguration and a relaxed approach to content moderation on Meta’s platforms. The company also scrapped partnerships with fact-checking groups in favor of a system similar to X’s “community notes.”

This development is a far cry from the days when Trump openly threatened Zuckerberg with prison. The two reportedly discussed the lawsuit during a meeting at Trump’s club last November.

While neither Meta nor the White House has commented on the agreement, this story is still unfolding. Stay tuned for updates as more details emerge.
