Tesla Superchargers Now Open to GM, Ford, Rivian, and Other EV Brands

In a game-changing move for electric vehicle (EV) owners, Tesla’s Supercharger network is now opening up to drivers of GM, Ford, Rivian, and several other automakers. This shift began in May 2023 when Ford became the first to strike a deal with Tesla, granting its EV owners access to over 12,000 Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada.

Soon after, a wave of automakers—including GM, Hyundai, Rivian, and Mercedes—followed suit, agreeing to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS). This marks a major change in the EV charging world, where the Combined Charging System (CCS) was previously the norm. Tesla’s NACS is widely regarded as superior, thanks to its user-friendly design and widespread availability.

For now, most non-Tesla EV owners will need adapters to use Tesla’s Superchargers. GM, for instance, has rolled out software updates for its Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC EVs, allowing drivers to purchase approved adapters for $225. Ford has also started providing adapters to Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning owners, though delays have affected some customers.

Hyundai Motor Group and Kia are also joining the club, with plans to offer free adapters to certain EV buyers and integrate NACS ports into new models starting in 2025. Meanwhile, Lucid and Mercedes-Benz are gearing up to provide Supercharger access to their customers in early 2025, with adapters available for purchase.

Tesla has ramped up adapter production, and as more automakers integrate NACS ports into their vehicles, the era of charging barriers between brands may soon be over. For now, EV drivers will need to download the Tesla app to pay for charging, but the future looks brighter—and more connected—than ever.

Stay tuned for updates as more brands gain official access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.
