Get ready to dive into the rich musical history of “Saturday Night Live” with a brand-new documentary. NBC is rolling out Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music, a three-hour special that promises to be a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
Since its debut in 1975, the iconic Studio 8H stage has hosted nearly 1,000 artists, from Billy Preston’s soulful opening act to modern-day stars like Billie Eilish. The documentary, co-produced by Roots drummer and filmmaker Questlove, is being hailed as a heartfelt tribute to the show’s musical legacy.
“Every second of this doc is a love letter of sorts,” Questlove shared on Instagram.
The film will uncover behind-the-scenes tales from the past five decades, featuring commentary from artists like Mick Jagger, Miley Cyrus, and Paul Simon, as well as SNL alums like Eddie Murphy and Maya Rudolph. Lorne Michaels, the show’s creator, reflects on the cultural moment SNL was born into: “Everything seemed to be, if not crumbling, at least open to question.”
