World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler isn’t letting a bizarre Christmas Day injury slow him down as he gears up for his first tournament of the year at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The incident happened while Scheffler was rolling ravioli dough with—wait for it—a wine glass. The glass shattered, leaving him with a cut on his right hand that required surgery. Ouch.

Despite the setback, Scheffler is confident it won’t affect his game. “Everything’s feeling good,” he told reporters. “I’m definitely excited to play. Feeling well rested and overall good.”

So, how did this happen? Scheffler explained he was at a rental property with his family over the holidays. They decided to make ravioli from scratch, but couldn’t find a rolling pin. Enter the wine glass—which, let’s be honest, wasn’t the best idea.

“It broke, and the stem kind of got me in the hand,” he said. “Accidents happen. It could’ve been worse. I talked to someone who did the same thing, and the stem went straight through their hand. Right after it happened, I was like, ‘Gosh, that’s so stupid.’ But in the moment, you just don’t think about it.”

This quirky injury capped off what’s been a wild year for Scheffler. He won the Masters, took home a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, and racked up seven PGA Tour victories in 2024.

But it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Earlier in the year, Scheffler faced controversy when he was arrested during the PGA Championship. Fortunately, the charges were later dropped.

The injury did give Scheffler one silver lining: extra time at home with his wife Meredith and their newborn. “It was frustrating not to play golf,” he said, “but we got some good time as a family.”

Fellow golfer Rory McIlroy had a laugh about the whole thing. “He made enough money to hire a chef. Why is he cooking himself?” McIlroy joked. “Yeah, get a chef.”
