Russian Strike on Ukraine Apartment Kills 14 as Tensions Escalate

A deadly Russian strike on a residential building in central Ukraine has claimed the lives of at least 14 people, including two children, according to emergency services. The attack, which occurred early Saturday morning in Poltava, is one of several incidents reported across the country over the weekend.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the assault, labeling it a "terrorist crime." The tragic event highlights the ongoing violence in the region, even as international efforts to broker a ceasefire remain stalled.

Among the victims were Olena Yavorska, her husband Dmytro, and their 9-year-old daughter Sofia. Olena, a former biology teacher who worked for a logistics company, was described by her employer as a dedicated professional. "Russia killed our colleague and her family," said Volodymyr Popereshniuk, co-owner of the company.

Rescue teams and psychologists are currently assisting nearly 200 affected individuals, with search operations still underway.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia are accusing each other of a separate attack on a former boarding school in Russia’s Kursk region. Ukrainian forces claimed a Russian air strike on the school killed at least four people, while Russia blamed Ukraine for the incident, calling it a "war crime." Both sides have provided conflicting accounts, which remain unverified independently.

As tensions continue to rise, Ukraine’s air defenses reported intercepting 40 out of 55 drones launched by Russia overnight. Ukrainian energy infrastructure was also targeted in multiple regions, further escalating the conflict.

The situation underscores the devastating toll of the war, with no immediate resolution in sight.
