This Republican Senator Says Trump Needs to Hear Dissent. Will He Speak Up?

Senator John Curtis of Utah is no stranger to controversy. Proudly calling himself “normal,” he’s made waves for saying he’s not afraid to challenge President Trump. But with a Republican majority in place, all eyes are on him to see if he’ll follow in Mitt Romney’s footsteps and speak up when it counts.

Even before Curtis officially took office, he found himself under fire from Trump’s most vocal supporters. Right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk slammed him on social media, accusing him of being a “RINO” (Republican in Name Only) and calling for his replacement. The backlash was intense, with hundreds of angry calls flooding his office and online critics labeling him a “traitor.”

Curtis, however, seems unfazed. In a recent interview, he described the uproar as a “storm” that feels overwhelming in the moment but fades upon reflection. “It’s a couple hundred calls,” he shrugged.

Now, as the Senate prepares to vote on several of Trump’s more divisive nominees, Curtis is in the spotlight again. One nomination drawing particular attention is Tulsi Gabbard’s bid for director of national intelligence. Her confirmation hearing was rocky, and Curtis’s vote could be the deciding factor.

Will Curtis stand up to dissent, or will he fall in line with the party? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: his actions in the coming days could have a big impact on the political landscape.

What do you think? Should Curtis challenge Trump, or stick with the party? Let us know in the comments!
