Big news from the British royal family! Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, are now proud parents of a baby girl. The little one, named Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, was born on January 22 at 12:57 PM in London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, the newborn weighed four pounds and five ounces. Both mom and baby are reportedly doing great. The royal family, including King Charles and Queen Camilla, are said to be thrilled with the arrival.
This is the couple’s second child together—their first daughter, Sienna, was born in September 2021. Athena also has an older stepbrother, Wolfie, from Edoardo’s previous relationship.
The name Athena holds special significance, with “Elizabeth” paying tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. Beatrice’s first daughter, Sienna, also shares this middle name, keeping the Queen’s memory alive in the family.
Princess Beatrice, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, tied the knot with Edoardo in a quiet ceremony at Windsor Castle in July 2020. The couple has kept their family life relatively private but often shares sweet moments with their kids.
Athena joins a growing list of royal great-grandchildren who’ve been named in honor of Queen Elizabeth. Earlier in 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markwell welcomed their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana, with a nod to the Queen’s childhood nickname.
Congratulations to the happy family on their newest addition! 💕
