Postal Worker Admits to Stealing Sports Memorabilia Worth $100K

A former postal worker in New Jersey has admitted to stealing some seriously pricey sports memorabilia, including rare Michael Jordan trading cards and a Mickey Mantle collectible. The total haul? Over $100,000 worth of goods.

Shelby Dozier, 34, from the Bronx, worked as a sorting clerk at a post office in Clifton, New Jersey. While on the job, he nabbed items meant for an auction house specializing in sports collectibles, according to prosecutors. The stolen goods weren’t just sitting in a closet—Dozier sold them to buyers and sports memorabilia shops.

Among the stolen items were an autographed photo of tennis star Rafael Nadal and, of course, those iconic Jordan and Mantle cards. The auction house, which wasn’t named in court documents, receives parcels from customers worldwide to auction off high-value collectibles.

Dozier pleaded guilty to theft of mail by a Postal Service employee this week. He was hired by the Postal Service back in August 2022 and worked the day shift sorting mail and packages in Clifton, just 15 miles west of New York City.

Prosecutors noted that while Dozier was on the job, “numerous parcels” destined for the auction house mysteriously vanished. Turns out, Dozier was the one making them disappear.

This case serves as a reminder of the trust we place in those handling our mail—and the consequences when that trust is broken.
