Seven San Antonio police officers were injured Wednesday night while responding to a call about a possible suicide. The suspect, who barricaded himself inside an apartment, was found dead after a standoff that lasted several hours.

The incident began around 8:30 p.m. when officers arrived at an apartment on Stone Oak Parkway. A woman had already left the residence, warning that the man inside was armed and shooting. As officers approached, the suspect emerged and opened fire, hitting one officer in the leg. He then retreated inside and continued shooting as more officers arrived, injuring six others.

All seven officers were treated for their injuries, which were not life-threatening. They are expected to recover fully. The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Brandon Scott Poulos, was found dead inside the apartment. It’s unclear whether he died from a self-inflicted wound or gunfire from the police.

Poulos had recently been arrested on January 18 for violating a protection order and other violent offenses. He was released on bail the following day.

During the standoff, nearby apartments were evacuated as SWAT teams tried to negotiate with Poulos. The scene remained tense for hours before authorities discovered his body.

This incident highlights the dangers police officers face while responding to emergency calls. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, help is available. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or visit SpeakingOfSuicide.com/resources for more support.
