New York City’s Noisiest Neighborhoods Revealed

If you’ve ever wondered where the loudest parts of New York City are, wonder no more. Last year, New Yorkers logged a whopping 753,222 noise complaints. But here’s the kicker—almost 10% of those came from just one spot: Bronx Community District 12.

This area, covering neighborhoods like Williamsbridge and Baychester, saw over 73,000 complaints, with the majority tied to noisy neighbors. George Torres, who manages the district, pointed out that loud parties and businesses blasting music on the streets are the usual suspects. “There’s a very permissive vibe up here,” he said.

Coming in second was Manhattan Community District 12, home to Washington Heights and Inwood. Residents there called in nearly 32,000 complaints, many about street noise. The area even has a local group, the WaHi-Inwood Task Force on Noise, dedicated to tackling the problem.

Rounding out the top three is Manhattan Community District 7, which includes the Upper West Side. Helicopter noise was the biggest gripe here, accounting for over half of the 26,000 complaints.

While these districts topped the charts, it’s worth noting that noise is a citywide issue. With so many people packed into every square mile, finding quiet can feel like a challenge. So, if you’re looking for peace and quiet in the Big Apple, you might want to bring some earplugs—just in case.
