A Manhattan spa owner is in hot water after allegedly giving clients fake Botox injections that left some hospitalized. Joey Grant Luther, 54, was arrested and charged with wire fraud, smuggling, and handling counterfeit drugs, according to prosecutors.
Luther ran JGL Aesthetics, a medical spa in Hell’s Kitchen, where he promised clients smoother skin, youthful eyes, and even enhanced genitalia through injectable treatments. But instead of delivering results, prosecutors claim he used counterfeit Botox sourced from China, leading to serious health problems like botulism and vision issues for his clients.
Despite not being a licensed doctor, Luther reportedly posed in a white lab coat and promoted his services on social media, showcasing a glamorous lifestyle filled with black-tie events and beach vacations. Meanwhile, his clients were unknowingly receiving dangerous, unapproved treatments.
The case highlights the risks of unregulated cosmetic procedures and serves as a stark reminder to always verify the credentials of those administering medical treatments. Luther now faces multiple charges, and his spa’s operations have come under scrutiny.
If convicted, he could face significant penalties, including prison time. Authorities are urging anyone who received treatments at JGL Aesthetics to seek medical advice immediately.
