In his first message since being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, NBA superstar Luka Doncic poured his heart out to the Dallas Mavericks and their fans. The 25-year-old took to social media to express his gratitude and reflect on his time in Dallas, calling the city a "home away from home."

"Seven years ago, I came here as a teenager chasing my basketball dreams," Doncic wrote. "I hoped to spend my entire career here and wanted so badly to bring you a championship. Your love and support meant everything to me. You made North Texas feel like home for a kid from Slovenia."

The trade, one of the biggest in NBA history, sent shockwaves through the league. The Lakers acquired Doncic along with Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a future first-round draft pick.

Despite the move, Doncic made it clear how much Dallas meant to him. "In good times and bad, your support never wavered. Thank you for sharing my joy and lifting me up when I needed it most."

While sidelined with a calf injury this season, Doncic has been a standout player, averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game. He also thanked local organizations for allowing him to contribute to the community.

As he heads to Los Angeles to join forces with LeBron James, Doncic remains focused on his ultimate goal. "Basketball is everything to me. Wherever I play, I’ll bring the same joy, passion, and drive to win championships."

The Mavericks reportedly had concerns about Doncic’s conditioning and his looming supermax contract, but trading a five-time All-NBA player still feels surprising to many fans.

"Dallas is a special place, and Mavs fans are special people. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart," Doncic concluded.

With no return date set for his injury, all eyes will be on Doncic as he begins this new chapter with the Lakers. Their next game is Tuesday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
