After considering 16 candidates for their head coaching position, the New York Jets have finally made their pick. They’ve chosen Aaron Glenn, who has spent the last four years as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. Glenn also has a personal history with the Jets, having played as a defensive back for the team in the past.

“This place means a lot to me,” Glenn shared in a statement. “From my early days as a player to my time as a scout, the Jets have always felt like home. I’m ready to pour everything into coaching this team and pushing us toward a championship.”

Glenn, 52, takes over from interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, who stepped in after Robert Saleh was let go earlier this season. Glenn’s coaching journey spans over a decade in the NFL, and his work with the Lions saw a struggling defense transform into a strong unit under his leadership.

The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2010 and are coming off a tough 5-12 season. Glenn faces a challenging task ahead, especially with the team’s front office also undergoing changes. Talks are reportedly ongoing with Lance Newmark, an assistant general manager from the Washington Commanders, to fill the GM role.

Fans are buzzing about the hire, including Jets legend Joe Namath, who expressed excitement on social media: “I wish the season would start next week!”

Glenn’s roots with the Jets run deep—he was drafted by the team in 1994 and played 15 seasons in the NFL. He also worked in the Jets’ front office as a scout before embarking on his coaching career.
