As Israel Expands West Bank Operation, Two Soldiers Are Killed

Two Israeli soldiers lost their lives in a shooting attack in the northern West Bank on Tuesday, as Israel continued its intensified military campaign in the region. Eight other soldiers were injured, with two in serious condition, according to military officials. The attacker was reportedly killed in a subsequent clash.

This incident comes just days after Israel announced it was expanding its operation eastward, targeting what it calls militant strongholds. Palestinians, however, describe the campaign as one of the most destructive in recent memory, displacing thousands and causing significant property damage.

Since launching the operation on January 21, Israel has focused heavily on the Jenin area, demolishing 23 buildings it claims were used by militants. The campaign has extended to other towns like Tulkarm and Tamun, leaving behind torn-up roads and widespread disruptions to water and power supplies.

Palestinian authorities report that 25 people have been killed and 65 injured in the broader Jenin area since the operation began. The Health Ministry does not differentiate between civilians and combatants in its figures.

While Hamas and Islamic Jihad praised the recent attack as "heroic," it remains unclear whether the shooter acted independently or was part of a larger group. The incident underscores the deepening tensions in the region, where both sides continue to grapple with violence and instability.

As the operation progresses, residents face mounting challenges, from displacement to infrastructure damage, painting a grim picture of life in the West Bank.
