New York Gov. Kathy Hochul proved she’s not just a politician but also a true-blue Buffalo Bills fan this past Sunday. The governor, known for her love of the team, made a splash at McGeary’s Irish Pub in downtown Albany, where she cheered on the Bills during their playoff game.
Dressed in a Bills cap and sneakers decked out with the team’s logo, Hochul was in her element. The bar, a favorite spot for Bills supporters, was packed with fans, and the governor fit right in. At one point, she even high-fived a fellow fan who was rocking a foam chicken wing hat—a classic Bills fan move.
The excitement was short-lived, though. A penalty overturned what seemed like a game-changing play, leaving Hochul and the crowd groaning in unison. “This is an emotional roller coaster,” she quipped, summing up the experience of being a Bills fan perfectly.
For those unfamiliar, the Bills haven’t made it to the Super Bowl in over 30 years, and their last four attempts ended in heartbreak. But Hochul, a Buffalo native, remains a steadfast supporter. Her passion for the team is a rare sight among New York governors, making her stand out even more.
Sunday’s game was a reminder that, politics aside, Hochul is just like any other Bills fan—hopeful, loyal, and ready to celebrate (or commiserate) with her fellow supporters.
