Looking for a VPN app you can trust? Google Play has your back. The tech giant just launched a new “Verified” badge to help users spot reliable VPN apps that take privacy and security seriously.
To earn this badge, apps must meet strict criteria. Developers need to follow Google’s safety guidelines and pass a detailed security check known as the Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2. On top of that, apps must have at least 10,000 installs, 250 reviews, and have been available on Google Play for a minimum of 90 days.
The Verified badge will appear on app detail pages and in search results, making it easier for users to identify trustworthy options. Google hopes this move will help people make smarter choices when downloading VPN apps and boost confidence in their decisions.
This isn’t the first time Google has taken steps to highlight secure apps. Last year, the company introduced “Government” labels to mark official state and federal apps.
With VPNs becoming increasingly popular, this new feature is a timely addition to Google Play’s efforts to ensure a safer app ecosystem. So, next time you’re hunting for a VPN, keep an eye out for that shiny Verified badge—it’s your shortcut to security.
