The fashion world has a new headline: Glenn Martens, the visionary behind Diesel’s recent success, is now the creative director of Maison Margiela. This exciting move comes just weeks after John Galliano, the brand’s former leader, bid farewell in December.
Martens, 41, is no stranger to shaking things up. Known for his bold, boundary-pushing designs at Y/Project and his transformative work at Diesel, he’s earned a reputation as a master of reinvention. His notable creations include gravity-defying jeans, jackets with extra sleeves, and even viral-ready denim “diaper” shorts.
This dual-role gig is a rare feat in the fashion industry. Martens will continue leading Diesel while taking on the creative reins at Margiela. Renzo Rosso, founder of Only the Brave Group (which owns both brands), expressed confidence in Martens’ ability to thrive in this unique position: “I’ve worked with Glenn for years. I’ve seen his talent firsthand, and I know what he can achieve.”
Martens himself shared his excitement: “It’s a huge honor to join Maison Margiela, a brand that has inspired the world for decades.” While his first Margiela runway show hasn’t been scheduled yet, the fashion community is already buzzing with anticipation.
