Six German endurance track cyclists, including world championship medalists, were left with serious injuries after a shocking accident during a training session in Mallorca. The group was hit head-on by a car driven by an 89-year-old, who reportedly failed to see them.
The cyclists, among them 2024 track world championship medalists Benjamin Boos and Bruno Kessler, were on a routine ride from their hotel in Palma when the collision occurred. Eyewitnesses, including the German national coach Lucas Schädlich, saw the incident unfold.
Emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene, and all six athletes were taken to nearby hospitals. Thankfully, none of the injuries are life-threatening, though details about their specific conditions haven’t been shared.
Other cyclists involved in the accident include Tobias Buck-Gramcko, Max-David Briese, Moritz Augenstein, and Louis Gentzik. Boos and Kessler were part of the German squad that secured bronze at last year’s Track World Championships in Denmark.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety for cyclists, especially in popular training destinations like Mallorca. Authorities are investigating the crash, but for now, the focus remains on the cyclists’ recovery.
