German Chancellor Olaf Scholz didn’t hold back this week, taking a strong stance against Elon Musk’s controversial support for far-right parties across Europe. During a campaign stop in Berlin, Scholz told CNN that Musk’s actions are “really disgusting” and harmful to democracy.

Musk has been making waves in Germany’s political scene, openly backing the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. From tweeting support to appearing virtually at AfD rallies, the billionaire’s involvement has sparked outrage. Scholz, however, isn’t new to meddling by media figures. “Intervening in politics in Germany isn’t new,” he said. “What’s new is [Musk] supporting right-wing leaders across Europe. That’s just wrong.”

One of Musk’s most contentious moves was suggesting Germany should move past its historic guilt over the Holocaust. Speaking at an AfD rally, he said there’s “too much focus on past guilt.” Scholz, visibly emotional, responded, “Germany will always carry this responsibility. Musk’s actions are deeply troubling.”

With Germany’s election around the corner, Musk’s influence has become a heated topic. His comments on immigration and German pride have further fueled the debate. “It’s good to be proud of German culture,” he told a crowd of 4,000 in Halle, adding that the election could determine “the future of civilization.”

As the political tension rises, Scholz’s critique highlights the broader concerns about foreign interference in European democracy. Musk’s team has yet to comment on the backlash.
