Founder Creates Lifesaving Tech to Prevent Senior Falls

Falls are a big concern for older adults, especially those living independently. Experts say they’re the top cause of injury for people over 65, with serious falls often requiring medical care. Unfortunately, many seniors don’t get the help they need in time.

George Netscher, a software developer turned entrepreneur, saw this problem firsthand. After watching his grandmother and aunt struggle with Alzheimer’s and the risk of falling, he worried his mother might face the same challenges. Determined to find a solution, he started SafelyYou in 2015.

SafelyYou uses cameras and AI-powered sensors to detect falls in senior living communities. When a fall happens, the system sends instant alerts to staff via text and phone calls, ensuring quick response. The company also has a remote clinical team that reviews each incident, offering advice to reduce future risks.

Netscher highlights that SafelyYou’s tech is more advanced than other options. Unlike some systems that require wearables or only detect falls after a long delay, SafelyYou’s sensors work seamlessly in the background. “Our technology is completely ambient,” Netscher explains.

The startup faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s now thriving, serving nearly 1,000 senior living communities. Recently, SafelyYou raised $43 million in funding to expand its team and operations. With over $100 million raised so far, the company is focused on growing its mission to keep seniors safe.

This innovative approach is making a real difference, proving that technology can be a powerful tool in improving senior care.
