Imagine living in a place where survival is the only goal. That’s the reality for many in Gaza, especially during the recent war. But Shaymaa Ahmed, a student at the Islamic University of Gaza, found something extraordinary amidst the chaos—a place called Taqat.

Taqat, which means “energies” in Arabic, is a workspace powered by solar panels. It offers reliable internet and electricity, a rare luxury in Gaza. For Shaymaa and others, it became a lifeline. Here, she managed software projects and worked alongside determined freelancers and students. It was a space where people could create, collaborate, and find purpose—even in the toughest of times.

“It reminded me that even in the hardest conditions, we can build something meaningful,” Shaymaa shared.

The recent cease-fire has brought a fragile sense of hope to Gaza. After weeks of relentless bombing, the silence feels surreal. Yet, the destruction is everywhere. Entire neighborhoods lie in ruins, and countless families are left grieving. Rebuilding will take years, if not decades.

But the physical damage is just part of the story. The emotional toll is immense. During the war, many in Gaza pushed hope away to protect themselves. Survival meant focusing on basics—finding food, water, and warmth. There was no room for feelings or optimism.

Still, places like Taqat show that even in the darkest times, people can find ways to move forward. They remind us that life can be more than just surviving—it can be about creating, connecting, and holding on to hope.

As Shaymaa put it, “I feel like a superhero.” And in a world that often feels broken, that’s a story worth telling.
