The Trump administration has taken a bold step by directing federal agencies to stop programs, grants, and initiatives that promote or recognize gender identity. This move is part of the president’s broader effort to remove what he calls “woke” ideology from government operations.

In a recent memo, agency heads were asked to review all activities tied to gender ideology by this Friday. Employees working on these initiatives have been placed on administrative leave, and public-facing materials promoting gender identity have been removed.

This order officially recognizes only two sexes—male and female—and effectively removes rights and recognition for transgender individuals and others who don’t identify with their birth-assigned sex.

Agencies have also been instructed to revise forms and communications to replace “gender” with “sex” and to limit options to male or female. Additionally, “intimate spaces” like restrooms and locker rooms must now be designated by biological sex, not gender identity.

This latest action follows similar moves to dismantle programs focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion, which has already led to layoffs and program shutdowns across federal agencies.
