FBI Seeks Leads on Iranian Officers Tied to Missing Agent

The FBI is stepping up efforts to solve the long-standing mystery of former agent Robert Levinson’s disappearance. On Tuesday, they released “seeking information” posters for two Iranian intelligence officers believed to be involved in his case.

Officials have named Mohammad Baseri and Ahmad Khazai as key figures in Levinson’s abduction, detention, and likely death. The U.S. has already sanctioned both individuals, but the new posters mark a fresh push for leads. Levinson vanished in March 2007 during a trip to Iran’s Kish Island and hasn’t been seen since.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5 million for details that could help locate Levinson, with the State Department chipping in an additional $20 million. A spokesperson from the FBI’s Washington Field Office emphasized their ongoing commitment to the case, saying, “We will pursue all options to hold every Iranian official involved in his abduction accountable.”

Levinson’s family believes he died before the Covid-19 pandemic, based on information from U.S. authorities. While Iran has repeatedly denied any involvement, a U.N. group noted in 2019 that Tehran’s Justice Department acknowledged an ongoing case related to Levinson in its court system.

This latest move highlights the U.S. government’s determination to uncover the truth about what happened to Levinson and bring those responsible to justice.
