Three weeks after a very public spat, Nigel Farage, leader of the populist Reform U.K. party, says his relationship with Elon Musk is “fine” and that the two recently spoke.
Farage shared with The New York Times that Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual, is still considering a significant donation to Reform U.K. This move could shake up British politics, especially given Musk’s past calls for the jailing of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The possibility of such a donation has sparked debates over foreign influence in U.K. elections. While foreign donations are allowed in Britain, they must go through a locally registered company. Farage described Musk as a “heroic figure” and hinted that the billionaire is figuring out the right way to support the party.
“Nothing is closed off as far as I know,” Farage said, adding that Reform U.K. recently raised over £1 million ($1.25 million) at a fundraiser—a substantial sum in British politics.
Earlier this month, tensions flared when Musk publicly criticized Reform U.K., saying it “needs a new leader.” Despite this, Farage’s latest comments suggest the door for collaboration remains open.
Musk has yet to comment on the matter. But if the donation happens, it could significantly impact Reform U.K., a party whose platform closely aligns with Trump-style populism.
