Fan Brawl Halts College Basketball Game Between VCU and Saint Louis

A chaotic scene unfolded at a college basketball game on Tuesday when a heated brawl broke out among fans, causing a significant delay in the game. The incident occurred during the men’s basketball match between Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Saint Louis University at Chaifetz Arena in Missouri.

With just over a minute left on the clock and Saint Louis leading 69-63, the fight erupted in the stands, spilling over rows of seats and onto the court near the VCU bench. While the exact cause of the clash is unclear, security and law enforcement swiftly stepped in to control the situation. Meanwhile, players stayed in their huddles, avoiding the chaos.

Video footage captured by local media showed one fan, an older man, emerging with blood on his face and neck. Boos echoed through the arena as other spectators reacted to the disruption. The game was paused for about seven minutes before resuming, with Saint Louis ultimately securing a 78-69 victory.

Saint Louis’ standout player, Gibson Jimerson, led the scoring with 26 points, while Kobe Johnson added 19 points and six rebounds. VCU’s Phillip Russell and Zeb Jackson each contributed 15 points in the loss.

After the game, Saint Louis coach Josh Schertz praised the home crowd for their energy, calling the students “awesome” and crediting their support for helping the team power through. The win marked the Billikens’ fifth consecutive home victory and ended VCU’s six-game winning streak. Both teams are now tied for second place in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

This was the second meeting between the two teams this season, with VCU winning the previous matchup in January. They’ll only face each other again if they meet in the upcoming conference tournament in March.
