The Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) is relying on its backup system to keep pilots informed after its primary alert network went offline late Saturday. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the issue on social media, reassuring travelers that flights are still operating safely.
The affected system, known as “Notice to Air Missions” (NOTAM), is crucial for sharing real-time updates about potential hazards. These include everything from closed runways to airspace restrictions and signal disruptions. While the backup is active, the F.A.A. is working to fix the main system and has promised updates every 30 minutes.
Duffy also mentioned that travelers might face some flight delays on Sunday as a result. However, he emphasized there’s no immediate risk to airspace operations.
