Douglas Emhoff, the husband of former Vice President Kamala Harris, is making a big career move. Starting Monday, he’ll be stepping into a new role as a partner at the prestigious law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher. Based in both Los Angeles and New York, Emhoff will focus on helping companies navigate crises like litigation and corporate investigations.

Before his time in Washington, Emhoff built a solid reputation as a corporate lawyer. He co-founded a boutique law firm in 2000, which he later sold to Venable in 2006. After a stint at DLA Piper, he stepped back from full-time legal work in 2020 to avoid potential conflicts of interest while his wife served as vice president. Now, he’s ready to dive back in.

Emhoff’s client list is impressive, including big names like Spotify and Lionsgate. He’s also represented high-profile individuals, such as former Olympian Willie Gault in a fraud case and reality TV star Mauricio Umansky in a real estate dispute. His experience spans both the legal and political worlds, making him a valuable asset for Willkie Farr & Gallagher.

The firm is excited to leverage Emhoff’s unique background. During his time as second gentleman, he built connections with leaders in entertainment, private equity, and global business. He also played a key role in diplomatic efforts, including representing the U.S. at the 2024 Olympics in Paris and leading initiatives to combat antisemitism.

“Doug’s network and expertise are unmatched,” said Thomas M. Cerabino, a co-chairman at Willkie. “We believe his ability to advise and connect with top leaders will bring incredible opportunities for the firm.”

With his return to corporate law, Emhoff is set to make waves once again—this time, in the boardroom.
