Dominique Pélicot, a man who shocked France with his horrific crimes against his then-wife, is back in the spotlight—this time for two other chilling cases from the 1990s. Already serving a 20-year sentence for drugging and allowing other men to rape his ex-wife, Pélicot was questioned Thursday about his potential involvement in a murder and an attempted rape.

The first case involves Sophie Narme, a real estate agent who was killed in Paris in 1991. The second is the attempted rape of another property agent in 1999 in Villeparisis, a Paris suburb. Pélicot’s lawyer, Béatrice Zavarro, claims he denies any role in Narme’s death but admits to meeting the second woman. While he acknowledges trying to undress her, he denies attempted rape. Traces of his DNA were found at the scene of the 1999 incident.

Investigators see striking similarities between the two cases, leading them to believe the same person could be responsible. Florence Rault, a lawyer representing Narme’s family and the other victim, pointed out the identical methods and victim profiles. “One has to remain cautious,” she said, “but the similarities make you wonder.”

These cases were merged in 2022 under a specialized unit in Nanterre that handles cold cases and serial crimes. Pélicot’s lawyer noted that while he denies meeting Sophie Narme, he has cooperated with investigators. His DNA evidence in the 1999 case, she says, proves his presence but not his guilt for the alleged crime.

Pélicot’s notoriety stems from his 2021 conviction for years of abuse against his ex-wife, Gisèle Pélicot. He drugged her, filmed her assaults, and invited strangers to rape her. Gisèle became a symbol of courage by pushing for an open trial. Evidence included thousands of disturbing photos and videos, labeled with sickening titles.

As France watches this unfolding story, the question remains: Is Dominique Pélicot linked to more crimes than he’s already admitted to? For now, investigators are digging deeper into the past, hoping to find answers in these decades-old cases.
