DeepSeek AI Faces Global Bans Over Security Concerns

If you’ve been keeping up with the latest in tech, you’ve probably heard of DeepSeek, the Chinese AI company making waves with its advanced chatbot apps. Unfortunately for them, it’s not all positive attention. Governments and corporations worldwide are raising red flags over the company’s practices, leading to a growing list of bans.

The main concern? DeepSeek stores all user data in China, where local laws require companies to share information with government authorities upon request. This has sparked fears of potential data leaks and national security risks. As a result, several countries and organizations have moved to restrict or outright ban the use of DeepSeek’s technology.

Italy was one of the first to act, with its Data Protection Authority launching an investigation into DeepSeek’s GDPR compliance. When the company claimed its apps weren’t subject to EU laws, Italy didn’t budge and removed the apps from local app stores.

In Taiwan, the Ministry of Digital Affairs labeled DeepSeek a threat to national security, banning its use across government agencies, schools, and state-owned enterprises.

The U.S. Congress and Texas have also joined the fray. Congressional offices received warnings about potential risks, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an order banning DeepSeek’s software from government devices, citing concerns over Chinese influence.

Even the Pentagon and NASA have taken action. The Pentagon blocked access to DeepSeek’s website after reports of unauthorized use, while NASA banned its employees from using the tech on agency devices due to national security worries.

With bans piling up, DeepSeek’s global presence is shrinking fast. Stay tuned as we keep track of where this AI giant is facing resistance next.
