Conduent, a major U.S. government contractor, has confirmed that a recent outage disrupting services like child support and food assistance was caused by a cybersecurity incident. The tech company, which provides systems supporting critical public services, revealed the issue but stopped short of detailing how its systems were compromised.
The outage left some residents without access to crucial support payments, sparking concerns about the security of sensitive government systems. In a statement, a company spokesperson confirmed that the incident had been contained and all systems were back up and running. “Maintaining system integrity and functionality is as important to us as it is to our clients,” they added.
While Conduent assured the public that the situation was under control, they did not disclose whether any data was stolen during the incident. Cybersecurity experts are urging companies to remain vigilant as attacks on critical infrastructure continue to rise.
