Commanders Look Ahead After NFC Championship Loss

The Washington Commanders’ season came to a heartbreaking end with a 55-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. While the defeat stung, the team is already looking forward to what’s next.

“This locker room won’t be the same next year,” said left guard Nick Allegretti after the game. “You can’t bring everyone back, and that’s just the reality of the NFL.”

Despite the disappointment, there’s a strong sense of optimism about the future. Players like linebacker Frankie Luvu expressed unwavering trust in head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters. “They laid the foundation for us,” Luvu said. “I trust them 110 percent with whatever they decide next.”

Peters, speaking at the team’s season-ending press conference, praised the squad for their hard work and camaraderie. “I’m really proud of this group,” he said. “It’s a disappointing ending, but we’re grateful for everything they accomplished.”

The Commanders’ 12-win season and deep playoff run marked their best performance in decades, but now the focus shifts to the offseason. With around 30 players entering free agency, including key contributors like linebacker Bobby Wagner and several wide receivers, tough decisions lie ahead.

“The goal is to bring in the right people—players who embody what it means to be a Commander,” Peters added.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels, who had a standout rookie season, admitted the loss left him feeling “sick.” Still, he’s already thinking about improving for next year. “It’s tough to be this close, but it’s all part of the journey,” he said.

As the team cleans out their lockers and prepares for the offseason, one thing is clear: the Commanders are building something special. “The floor has risen,” Quinn said. “But we’re nowhere near our ceiling yet.”

With a strong foundation in place, the Commanders are poised to take the next step in 2025. Fans will be watching closely to see how the team evolves in the months ahead.
