Chilean Men Arrested in High-Profile Burglaries, Possibly Linked to Joe Burrow’s Break-In
Four men from Chile were nabbed earlier this month in Clark County, Ohio, as part of a sweeping investigation into a string of high-end home burglaries. Authorities suspect the group may be connected to the recent break-in at Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s home.
The arrests came after a traffic stop on January 10, where officers found items linked to the December 9 burglary at Burrow’s Anderson Township residence. Inside their Chevrolet Blazer, police reportedly discovered an old LSU shirt and a Bengals hat, believed to have been taken during the incident. Burrow, who led LSU to a national championship and won the Heisman Trophy in 2019, wasn’t named in the report, but the timeline matches his home invasion.
All four suspects—Sergio Cabello, Alexander Chavez, Bastian Morales, and Jordan Sanchez—were reportedly in the U.S. illegally or had overstayed their visas. They’re facing charges including engaging in corrupt activity, participating in a criminal gang, and possessing burglary tools.
Law enforcement says this is part of a larger trend. At least six South American burglary rings, mostly from Chile, have been arrested recently. These groups often target athletes’ homes, exploiting their absence during games. The FBI issued a warning in December, noting that organized theft crews had hit the homes of at least nine professional athletes between September and November 2024.
Burrow, who spoke about the burglary in December, shared his frustration over the lack of privacy that comes with his public life. “It’s one of my least favorite parts of this career,” he admitted.
The NFL, NBA, and NHL have all cautioned teams about these skilled burglary groups. Other athletes, including Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, have also fallen victim to similar crimes.
As the investigation continues, the four men are set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing. Meanwhile, Burrow and other athletes are left grappling with the unsettling reality of being targets.
