Southern California Battles New Wildfires Amid Rain Warnings

Southern California is still reeling from weeks of devastating wildfires, and now, exhausted crews are tackling even more blazes. The latest challenge? The Hughes Fire, which has burned over 10,000 acres since it started just two days ago. As of Thursday, it was about 36% contained, thanks to firefighters working overnight to cool the flames and tame the winds.

But the Hughes Fire isn’t the only worry. Two new fires erupted in San Diego County on Thursday, with the Border 2 Fire doubling in size within an hour. While no civilians are currently at risk, these blazes are threatening vital communication infrastructure.

Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed legislation to provide $2.5 billion in aid for wildfire recovery efforts.
