The Beatles are back in the spotlight, and their music is still making waves. Over five decades after their breakup, the iconic band snagged their eighth Grammy for best rock performance with their song “Now and Then.”
Released last year, “Now and Then” was completed by surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. The track features original vocals from the late John Lennon, preserved using modern technology, and guitar recordings from George Harrison, who passed away in 2001.
Sean Ono Lennon, John Lennon’s son, accepted the award at the Grammys Premiere Ceremony. “The Beatles have done such incredible work, and their music still lives on,” he said. “As far as I’m concerned, they’re the greatest band of all time. We need peace, love, and the music of the ‘60s to stay alive.”
This win comes 55 years after the band split in 1970 and marks their first Grammy victory since 1997. Their previous wins include accolades for classics like “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
Though “Now and Then” was also nominated for record of the year, that award went to Kendrick Lamar for his hit “Not Like Us.” Still, The Beatles’ latest achievement proves their legacy is as strong as ever.
