Meet Backline, a fresh cybersecurity startup that’s stepping into the spotlight with a bold mission: using AI to tackle security issues automatically. The company just revealed its $9 million seed funding round, led by StageOne Ventures, and it’s already turning heads.
Founded by Maor Goldberg, a seasoned entrepreneur with a history of successful exits, Backline aims to solve a frustrating problem many organizations face—too many security alerts and not enough time to fix them. Goldberg, who previously founded companies like Whitebox Security and Apolicy, noticed a recurring theme in the industry: companies invest in top-notch security tools but struggle to actually resolve the issues these tools flag.
“It’s overwhelming. Teams are drowning in problems, but they lack the resources to address them,” Goldberg explained. Security tools like Snyk or Wiz are great at identifying vulnerabilities, but fixing them often requires chasing engineers or platform teams who are already swamped with work.
That’s where Backline steps in. Its AI agents analyze vulnerabilities, propose solutions, implement changes, and rigorously test the results—all without human intervention. The testing phase, inspired by hardware industry practices, ensures the fixes are reliable and trustworthy.
The company leverages large language models (LLMs) to enhance its processes, focusing on collaboration and prioritization to tackle high-priority issues quickly. While it currently focuses on software vulnerabilities, Backline has its sights set on bigger challenges, like addressing software supply chain issues and identity management.
“Security backlogs are keeping CISOs awake at night,” said Tal Slobodkin of StageOne Ventures. “Backline’s approach could change the game by speeding up remediation significantly.”
Joining StageOne in the seed round are Evolution Equity Partners and Gradient, adding fuel to Backline’s ambitious plans. As the startup moves forward, it’s clear they’re onto something that could make a real difference in the overburdened world of cybersecurity. Stay tuned!
