Anthony Davis opened up for the first time since the jaw-dropping trade that sent him from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Dončić.
“Six years ago, I came here with a goal: to win a championship. And I’ll never forget the moment we did it,” Davis shared on Instagram, alongside a heartfelt video of his time with the Lakers.
He expressed gratitude to Los Angeles, calling it the place where he won his first ring, grew his family, and built lifelong friendships. “LA will always feel like home,” he added, while also acknowledging those affected by recent wildfires.
To his former teammates, Davis said, “Our friendships go way beyond the court and the jersey.”
The trade, which also involved Max Christie and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick heading to Dallas while Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris joined the Lakers, sent shockwaves through the NBA community.
Davis, who joined the Lakers in 2019, quickly became a key player, helping the team clinch the NBA title in his debut season. Despite battling injuries, he remained a dominant force on the court, forming a dynamic duo with LeBron James.
James himself chimed in on Davis’ Instagram post, writing, “My DOG!!!! You dat muthaf*cka!! Go do you CHAMP!!!!”
Now, Davis is set to team up with Kyrie Irving in Dallas, while James pairs with Dončić in Los Angeles.
The trade left even NBA stars like Stephen Curry stunned. “It was completely out of the blue,” Curry said after the Warriors’ game. “You hear something like that and wonder if someone hacked the system!”
With this bold move, the NBA landscape shifts dramatically, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how both teams will fare in the upcoming season.
