Say goodbye to tedious warehouse tasks! Ambi Robotics, a spinout from U.C. Berkeley, just unveiled its latest innovation, AmbiStack, a game-changing system that automates pallet packing. This isn’t your average warehouse robot—it’s designed to handle the heavy lifting, literally and figuratively.

At the heart of AmbiStack is an industrial robotic arm equipped with suction cups mounted on a gripper. It glides along a conveyor belt, picking up boxes and stacking them neatly onto pallets. What makes this system stand out is its ability to combine two major warehouse operations—picking and stacking—into one smooth process. This not only saves time but also reduces the risk of workplace injuries, a common issue in manual packing.

The brains behind the system are just as impressive as the hardware. AmbiStack’s AI has been trained on over 200,000 hours of warehouse data, giving it the smarts to handle a variety of package sizes with precision. Pre-sales have already kicked off, with the first units expected to roll out by mid-2025. And to keep up with demand, Ambi plans to expand its manufacturing operations early next year.

This isn’t Ambi’s first rodeo. The company, founded in 2018 by U.C. Berkeley students and robotics professor Ken Goldberg, previously introduced AmbiSort, a system for sorting smaller parcels. Their tech has already caught the attention of big names like Pitney Bowes, which signed a $23 million deal with Ambi in 2022.

Ambi Robotics is riding the wave of automation spurred by the pandemic, as logistics companies continue to invest in smart solutions to address staffing shortages. But they’re not alone in the space. Competitors like Pickle, Righthand, and even Hyundai’s Boston Dynamics are vying for a piece of the pie.

With $67 million in funding and a growing list of high-profile clients, Ambi Robotics is proving that the future of warehouse operations is here—and it’s automated.
